about Gilda Gloves

design by Belinda

You will need

  • 1 x 100g Silky (166m/100g)

  • 4mm single-point needles

  • Row counter

  • Cable needle

  • Sewing up needle

Skill Level: interesting/intermediate

Finished Size: 18cm around, 20cm long with frill.

*NB 3 gloves can be made out of one skein. So 3 pairs of Gilda Gloves can be made from 2 skeins of Silky.

Tension/gauge
20sts to 10 cm, or 5sts to 1” over stocking stitch using 4mm needles.

There is no such thing as 'normal tension'. We recommend you always make a tension square.

Make sure you are knitting to Ruth and Belinda’s gauge, if not you may end up with a garment that is too small or too big.

Please go up or down a needle size to obtain correct gauge.

How to make the Gilda Gloves and a little bit more - Belinda talking...

Cable designs always look so amazing. The all-over cable pattern and moss-stitch lends simplicity to the design and adds extra warmth. The gloves are worked to and fro’ on single pointed needles and the seams are closed simply by attaching beautiful mother-of-pearl buttons. The main body of the design is worked straight except for the thumb section where you increase either side of the thumb gusset.

These Gloves were created in celebration of the film entitled Gilda (1946), starring movie icon Rita Hayworth (glamorous glove-wearing sex- goddess).
